Vital to the community's health
Kin Canada celebrates 90 years of service

The contributions to the community by the Brantford Kinsmen Club have been a substantial. These include donations to local hospitals, Hockey League, Soccer League. The purchase of equipment for various organizations (i.e.) Brantford Police Omnichrome6000 finger print lifter, Apnea Monitors for baby breathing difficulties, and far to many more to be listed here. For list please visit http://www.brantfordkinsmen.ca/services.html

Every year the Brantford Kinsmen put on there Annual Car Show & Swap meet at the Paris Fair grounds in the 3rd Sunday in September. And there weekly Bingo game held every Thursday of the month at the Kinsmen Bellview community hall.

It was originally a young man's club. In the early years, when you reached 40, you were finished. Having any age limit has changed within the last 10 years.

Other service clubs only allowed one of any profession to join, but Kinsmen is noncompetitive, and we are now the largest Canadian association.

Today, the Brantford Kinsmen Club is made up of community minded members, but membership is low. Still, there are a few dedicated members that keep it going.

The Brantford Kinsmen Club executive is made up of Elwood Phillips, president; Thomas Sevier, vice-president; secretary Mike Austin; treasurer Norm Philpott, registrar Doug Linn and past-president Greg Philpott.

The club meets on the first and third Wednesday of each month from September to June at the Kinsmen Bellview community hall, Ontario in Eagle place 55 Tom Street Brantford.

All of this may sound like a lot of work, but the work is divided up. We try not to make it a big commitment for anybody; our spouses and family often help out too. "There is an unwritten rule in Kinsmen that says your priorities go: family, work, Kinsmen. The club doesn't take away from your family or job, but it is significant in your life."

Members pay some dues to belong to the club but, activities that the club does to raise funds help to subsidize membership costs so that there is no hardship to pay.

The meetings are about fun and camaraderie. The club is always looking for new members, although at one time in the club's history there was actually a waiting list to join.

Service clubs are vital to the health of a community. We are another voice in the community. (MPP) Dave Levac and Mayor Mike Hancock have spoken at our events and said 'thanks to the Brantford Kinsmen club. And glad that they are a part of their community.'
